Historic tour canceled

This morning’s Walking Tour through the village of Searsport with Charlene Knox Farris, town historian, was canceled because of the rain. The tour was to have been part of the town’s 175th anniversary celebration, delayed from last year by the pandemic. Town officials hope to reschedule it for Saturday, Oct. 9, during Searsport’s Fling Into Fall celebration.

Memorial Park bench dedication

A reminder that a bench will be dedicated in Mosman Memorial Park on Howard Street Wednesday, July 7, at 12:10 p.m. in memory of Alex Hooper.

Car and Craft Show

The Car and Craft Show hosted by the Barney Hose Company will be happening on Saturday, July 10, opening at 9 a.m. and running til 2 p.m. It will be held in the Searsport High School parking area. Always a good time!

Turkey Supper

Searsport United Methodist Church is holding its monthly Takeout Turkey Supper Saturday, July 10, from 4 to 6  p.m. at the church on Main Street. Cost is $10 per meal, which is a full “Thanksgiving style” turkey dinner, complete with homemade pies! All meals are “to go,” but no reservations are necessary.

Summertime Story Hour is back!

Carver Memorial Library will be hosting outdoor storytime for kids on the first Friday on the month at 10:30 a.m. at the library under the tent for children 0 to 5 years. Rhonda Nickols will be leading with lots of stories, songs and movement for young learners. On the third Thursday of the month (July 15) at 10:30 am storytime will be held throughout the community. On the 15th it will be at the Mosman Park gazebo. Please bring sunscreen and a blanket or folding chair.

Every Tuesday in July and August there will be a “Tunes and Tales” event. Choose a book from the Tunes and Tales Tote for a special story and song.

The DIY kit this month is a bee watering kit to provide a watering station for pollinating bees available at the library, and all ages will enjoy this one.

Book Club, held at the Community Building on Prospect Street at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 13, will be reading “Winter at the Door” by Sarah Graves.

Lobster Days

On Fridays in July and August, come meet the giant person-sized lobster! There will be lobster trivia and temporary tattoos. All lobster events will be included in the admission.

Themed walking tours

The museum is bringing back its walking tours again this summer on Tuesday nights in July and August. Tours are $25 per family up to 10 people. Here is the schedule: July 13 is Authors and Artists; July 20th and 27th, Trivia Night; Aug. 3 and 10th, Through the Cracks ( stories about Searsport residents whose stories went unrecorded); and August 17th, 24th and 31st, Stories of Searsport Sailing Families.

Keep in mind, the Tall Ship Santa Maria and Coast Guard vessel, Abbie Burgess, will be in our harbor July 18.
