CHINA — Maine State Police Troopers from Troop D arrested Kevin Michaud, 58, July 11 at his home in China and charged him with one count of Class D simple assault, according to a press release issued today by the Maine Department of Public Safety. He was summonsed for one count of unlawful sexual touching.

According to the July 14 press release, Michaud came to the attention of troopers following the discovery of his online communications with a 13-year-old female. The charges arose from a pair of incidents that allegedly occurred with the teenager in Waldo County earlier this year.

Michaud was booked into the Waldo County Jail.  He was released on bail with conditions that he have no contact with any children under the age of 18 and that he not to return to the Waldo County Technical Center where he has been serving as the school’s director.

According to the Technical Center’s website, Michaud joined WCTC in 2015.  In a career spanning about 30 years, he has been a classroom teacher, adviser, tutor, mentor, athletic coach (multiple sports), athletic director, camp director, assistant principal and principal. He has also worked in the restaurant, health care and autobody repair industries, as a bus and commercial truck driver, and was also self-employed as a freelance photographer for over 25 years. He is married and the father of four.
