Fire Department notes

Recent call outs were few lately. We responded with Engine 32 to the Maritime Farms store on Saturday evening, July 18, for an alarm malfunction.

Many of you have been very generous to the department this spring and summer.

We are asked often how may we help, other than being a firefighter?

Right now our number one priority is to raise more money for the future addition of a meeting room, offices and storage.

We have some savings in the town reserves but far from the need. Our truck replacement fund is growing due to your dropping off bottles and cans. Both of these projects are ongoing and we will bring you updates as we move forward.

At this time we do not have a time frame for truck replacement, as all four units are running well. Donations to the building fund may be made to the building account whether through the town of Morrill or through the Morrill V.F.D. Ladies Auxiliary. Both have accounts for this project.

E.D.I.T.H. No, not the lady down the street. This stands for Exit Drill in the Home. We encourage every family to have a plan on how to get out of their home in case of an emergency. The plan should be practiced a couple of times a year. Now is a great time, as the weather is warm. Each family member needs to know at least two ways out and how to get down low (below smoke) and crawl to the nearest safe exit. Every family must have a meeting place and stay there until the fire department arrives.

This will allow for determining that all are accounted for. Make this a fun activity in practice but teach the seriousness of having this plan in an emergency. If you need help with your plan, contact the chief or officers.

Till next time, play safe.

Happy birthday to Denise Loper on July 31. Wishing you a very special day.

Happy anniversary to Jeremy and Ruth Richards on July 29.

On July 16-18, we held our 64th Skillin Reunion at Rae and Cliff Fuller’s house. On Friday we had lobsters and clams for the ones that camped over night. Then on Saturday we had a lot more people show up. We went swimming, had potluck and had lots of fun. We had 55 people show up this year. We had such good weather until Sunday when it rained. We always have such a great time getting together.

Until next week, I hope you’ll send me some info about what is going on this summer in your family. This is your column and I would love to put something of yours in here.

Deepest Sympathy goes out to the Totman family in their loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Quote of the week

Next time you’re stressed, take a step back, inhale and laugh.

Remember who you are and why you’re here. You’re never given

anything in this world that you can’t handle. Be strong, be flexible,

love yourself and love others, always remember, just keep moving forward. — Lorenzo Dozier
