FRANKFORT — A Frankfort man was arrested and charged with assault after a physical altercation with a female on Old Stage Road.

Joey Doyon, 40, was arrested June 13 and charged with aggravated assault and assault following a complaint accusing him of grabbing the victim by the neck.

According to court records, State Police Trooper Einar Mattson interviewed the victim, who said she had been assaulted. Signs of injuries were visible when he conducted the interview, Mattson said.

Mattson met Doyon at the parking lot of St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bangor, where he asked him about what happened earlier. Doyon explained he was driving by a residence where the female was staying and she started yelling at him.

“One thing led to another,” he said, and he grabbed her in the neck/shoulder area to “try and pull her away.” At one point, Doyon said, she fell to the ground.

Doyon was arrested without incident and transported to Waldo County Jail. He was later released on personal recognizance and scheduled to appear at Waldo Judicial Center Aug. 24 for a dispositional conference hearing.  According to Doyon’s bail conditions, he is not to possess dangerous weapons, is to submit to random searches, and have no contact with the victim.

Aggravated assault is a class B crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $10,000.
