NORTHPORT — Bayside Arts presents a free exhibit of photographs by Steve Nelson in the gallery of the Bayside Community Hall, 813 Shore Road, Aug. 5 through 15. The gallery is open Thursdays through Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m.
Regarding his photography, Nelson said, “It’s all too easy for me to get absorbed, sometimes overwhelmed, by my to-do lists. Being in the world with a camera, intentionally working at being present and attentive to mystery, sniffing for the emotional connections, restores my spirit.”
Nelson stumbled across Bayside in 1982 on a field trip during a workshop at The Maine Photographic Workshops in Rockport. Since first discovering Bayside—a well-kept Midcoast secret—Nelson’s photos have chronicled this magic spot through the seasons, in all kinds of weather and times of day. He is a popular contributor to the Bayside Picture-of-the-Day on BaysideMaine.com.
Nelson graduated with a Master’s degree in Speech Communications in 1978, and almost immediately began working in the field of photography. He is currently a co-owner of FayFoto Boston, a photo studio in Boston.
