Thorndike has a new Town Clerk, Rosemarie Hill. The Thorndike Town Office is open Monday, Tuesday and Friday, 8 a.m. to noon, and Wednesday, noon to 6 p.m. I believe there are some other openings at the Town Office. If interested, give them a call at 568-3656.

I recently received word of the passing of Mary Ellen Twombley. I will miss her laughter. We sure had some good times. Rest in peace, Mary Ellen.

I got a letter in the mail, recently. I was so excited and couldn’t wait to get inside to open it and I tore it open and read it as I was walking back to the house. It was a lovely letter from Pearl Nickless. She is a lively 97 years young. I will stop over and visit with her in the near future but in the meantime, I am going to sit down and write her back soon. It was so good to hear from her.

We had some hand-cut fries with our supper from some potatoes that Dustin grew this year. Very tasty!  He really enjoys growing some potatoes in big planters every year. He averages between 5 and 6 pounds per planter. He started a planter of potatoes for Papa Dixon to take to Farmington and see how many pounds he can get out of his.

Tax bills are out and if you did not receive yours, call the Town Office. Taxes are due on or before Sept. 21.

Happy birthday to Thressa Abbott and to Hallee Reynolds.

This day has been too hot to move and I had appointments to go to, Unity and Belfast. I actually think Belfast was hotter than Unity.

Have you applied for the Property Tax Fairness Credit? Homeowners and renters are eligible if they meet all the requirements. If you are unsure, contact Maine Revenue Services at 624-9784 weekdays, 9 a.m. to noon.

Willa Cather is quoted as saying, “Some memories are realities, and are better than anything that can ever happen to one again.”

Have a great week, stay out of the hot sun and call or write an old friend. You will both feel good.
