Hello Monroe!

With the end-of week-heat has come lots of down time in the backyard shade. Oliver enjoys running through the splash pad sprinkler we have set up for him, and chasing the one or two chickens, who manage to escape daily from their run, away from it.

Oliver was the lucky recipient of a battery-operated tractor for his 2nd birthday, and owes a big thank you to Grampa Bruce for fixing a loose electrical issue with it. The tractor was “broken” for two long days, and for a little boy who had been riding it around the farm multiple times a day for weeks on end, two days without it was a long time to wait!

Town taxes

Were you as lucky as we to receive your town tax bill in the mail last week? Note first payment is due on or before Oct. 14 to avoid interest accrual of 6% beginning Oct. 15, 2021, and the second payment is due on or before Feb. 13, 2022, to avoid interest accrual of 8% on second payment beginning Feb. 14, 2022. No reminder notices will be mailed for the second payment. Contact the Monroe Town Hall at 525-3515 with any questions about your bill or how to go about paying it.

Attention: Dickey Hill Road residents

From Sue Hall, faithful Monroe mail carrier:

“To those terrific postal patrons who reside on the Dickey Hill Road, congratulations!  You will soon have a paved road which means no pot holes and less dust on the shelves.  The downside is that you will have to attend to your mailboxes.

At your convenience, please note that all boxes should be raised to 46” from the road to the bottom of the box. Your number should be visible on the right-hand side of the box (on the front is lovely but just an added bonus), and a nice big reflector may ward off the plow truck, if you are so inclined.

I realize that this is an inconvenience, but would be very appreciative, as I am not as flexible as I used to be. Many thanks.”
