BELFAST — The Maine Celtic Celebration board of directors announced today that, “with a heavy heart,” it has canceled the event planned for Sept. 18.
“We all had worked so hard toward having a live show,” Maine Celtic Celebration Co-chair Steve Bowler said in the Aug. 18 announcement. “The committee was unanimous that we had to cancel due to the increased incidence of COVID-19 in Waldo County and the dim prospect that it is likely to get worse over the next couple of months; we felt it was in the best interest of the MCC volunteers, the performers, and the residents of Maine that we not create a possible super-spreader event.”
“We thank all our supporters and encourage everyone to check out the mainecelticcelebration.com website and Facebook page, as we are asking the originally scheduled performers to submit short video performances for us to air,” Bowler said.
The Maine Celtic Celebration Committee will start planning for the 2022 event this fall, he said, and the committee encourages interested volunteers to contact the committee at info@mainecelticcelebration.com.
