Well here we are past the middle of August already. Schools will be back in session soon. College kids are moving into their dorms, or apartments. Good luck to all!

New driving school

Nearby in Waldo a new driving school has been born. Coastal Area Driving School by Raena Penney and team. Serving all of Waldo County and any students that want a safe learning experience. Classes will be held at Waldo County Technical Center starting Sept. 14. Enrollment also open for October and November. Mount View schools open Aug. 30. Time is certainly flying by.

Mud Run anyone?

First ever Mud Run on Saturday, Aug. 28, at Union Fair. Register 10:30 a.m.-noon.Competition for 16 and older. Starts at noon, get your rig ready and tackle the mud pit. It’s also Maine Wild blueberry Festival at Union Fair. The fair runs Aug. 21-28. Fun-filled week. Grab some fair food. Sausages with peppers and onions roll and French fries. My favorites.

Unity Raceway

Unity Raceway also has a new site by Joey “Junkyard” Doyon, Unity Raceway, The Rebuild. He and his family and some friends are working on the track. He says that they should be ready for the grader very soon. They also have an Adopt A Plank fundraiser to furnish the bleachers with new planks.$35. donation.Check this out on Facebook. Good luck to all there. People are happy this is happening.

Powersports Swap Meet again Sept. 11, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Unity Raceway parking lot. Load up your truck, $10, or trailer, $20. Bring them full of stuff — snowmobiles, ATVs, SxSs, dirt bikes, water crafts, lawnmowers, anything with small engine. Adult admission $2; 17 and under free.

At  Walker Health Care they are looking to hire a registered nurse. Join the team there. Missy will be there to greet you, I am sure. Local folks go there.

Sweet corn

Had some more corn from Gold Top Farm. Stop by and get some, its so good. Right on 137 in town here.

Public supper

Freedom Congregational Church will host a Chicken and Biscuits Supper, veggies, salads, punch and desserts. Sept. 4, 4:30 -6 p.m. Adults $9.

MOFGA Unity

The Common Ground  Fair is on Sept. 24-26. Ticket sales are online only. Adults 18-64, $14. Seniors and youth 13-17, $10. Children 12 and under free.

Tickets MUST be purchased in advance this year. Tickets at mofga.org. Always a fun and exciting time. Many displays, demonstrations, lots of  food, and something to see. They rely on over 2,000 volunteers (4-hour shifts). You can volunteer, call MOFGA at 568-4142 or 568-4165. Fax 568-4141.

Sept. 18, 10 a.m. starts. Parade at 10 a.m., noon-4 p.m. live music by the Auction Hall. Chicken barbecue, and family activities. Much more.

Mr. Gladiola Man

Don Orff will be observing his 89th birthday on Aug. 23. May he have a great day. Stop by the end of Morse Road to purchase his beautiful glads. It’s on the honor system, $1 each or a dozen for $10.

On Thursday I met up with Diane Woodridge Johnson from Massachusetts to have lunch at Mammie’s Restaurant.

Visitors

On Wednesday Gabe and Reese showed up for a visit here. He had a new 12-gauge to show me. Glad they like to hunt and have fun outdoors.
