I tried my hand at making pulled pork and it came out fantastic. I started it off in the crock pot but finished it in the oven. I was looking forward to some leftovers; my husband absconded with the remains and it made its way to help feed the race car crew at Wiscasset Speedway.

Bucking the trend … Unity’s 2020 census count was 2,292 versus a 2010 population of 2,099, an increase of 193 people. By contrast, our neighboring towns — Thorndike, Troy, Albion, Freedom and Unity Plantation — all had a population decrease.

New appointees to town committees: Jim Buckle to the Planning Board, David Aldrich to the Appeals Board, and Kathryn Piper to the Recreation Committee.

Thank you Tim Parker Jr. of Lawn and Order for volunteering some of his time on a 94-degree day by weed whacking our neck downs along Main Street.

We received the engineering report for the Farwell bridge. The scope of work is large as it needs a complete deck and some structural support replacement. When the deck comes off it may reveal additional work that might need to be done. The next step will be to put it out for bid.

Roadside mowing has commenced. As it is late in the season, the roads will be mowed one time. Trees and brush are also being cleared along some roads.

I had to go to the Farwell cemetery to check on a stone. It’s really a lovely spot, with nice shade and a breeze blowing across the open fields. The “Hope Stone” is grand, not only in size but also in detail. It needs to be cleaned, but it’s a little much for me to do so we’ll have the professionals do it next year. While there I cleaned and treated some Cornforth family stones.
