BELFAST — A Swanville woman had to be extricated from her vehicle after a crash with a Belfast Public Works Department dump truck late Tuesday morning.

Belfast Police Chief Gerry Lincoln said Alan Armstrong, 55, of Searsport was traveling south at approximately 11:15 a.m. on City Point Road Aug. 24 in a municipal dump truck. Shana Colby, 43, of Swanville, was driving a Ford Fusion north on the same stretch of road.

At a slight curve, Lincoln said, the vehicles collided head-on, at the intersection of E. Waldo Road and City Point Road.

Belfast Fire Department extricated Colby from her car and Belfast Ambulance Service took her to Waldo County General Hospital. Lincoln said she was later moved to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. According to police, Colby is currently in stable condition.

Armstrong was also taken to Waldo County General Hospital with minor injuries. Emergency personnel remained on-site for three hours while the Maine State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit investigated the incident.

Reached Wednesday morning, Fire Department personnel said the road was closed for about 90 minutes while they used the Jaws of Life to pry the Ford’s doors apart. “She (Colby) wasn’t mobile enough to get out with a big console in the way,” they said.

Both vehicles sustained substantial damage, Lincoln said, and the State Police investigation is continuing.
