Volunteer Fire Department fundraiser a success

Thank you to all who supported the Palermo Volunteer Fire Department fundraiser on Aug. 22. The weather cooperated, with rain only showing up about 20 minute before the end of the event. Approximately 120 tickets were sold, raising important funds for the VFD.

A big thanks goes to Haskell and Daughter Beef, Wild Miller Farm, Wet Cellar Farm, Tobey’s General Store, and The Maine Variety Store/Pagett Farm for their contributions and to the American Legion & Ladies’ Auxiliary, Branch Mills Grange, Palermo Community Library, and Branch Pond Association for their participation. About 45 pounds of meat (burgers, turkey burgers and hot dogs) were consumed. There was a fantastic potato salad from Joel Miller, and a vibrant purple coleslaw with cabbage from Wet Cellar Farm.

Weather (wind) canceled the controlled burn, but fire engine #1 and the tanker were on display. The kids had a great time running around and playing on the 1947 Farmall Cub tractor supplied by Joel Miller. Storytelling by Palermo authors Gary Dyer and Jeanette Scates was very entertaining.

Stay tuned next year for what is likely to be a repeat event!
