In addition to the annual Bridge Walk across Veterans Memorial Bridge in Belfast Saturday morning, Sept. 11, other observances are planned in the area.

In Unity, Melanie Cole is organizing a ceremony to begin at 9 a.m. next to the Unity Fire House. Benjamin Berry American Legion Post 50 is expected to participate at the end of the ceremony with a 21-gun salute. All are welcome.

The First Church in Belfast will commemorate the loss of life and the courage of all first responders during the Sept. 11 attacks. Saturday morning the church bell will ring 20 times, one per year passed, beginning at 8:46 a.m., the time the first hijacked plane hit the twin towers.

In the evening, the First Church will have a commemorative vigil around the fire pit on the front lawn at 6 p.m., for sharing memories and joining in prayer. Participants are invited to bring a reading or a poem to share.
