High school distance athletes were off and running to begin their high school seasons on Friday, Sept. 3 as Camden Hills of Rockport, Medomak Valley of Waldoboro, Oceanside of Rockland and Belfast cross-country runners hit the course for strong performances.

The Windjammers, Lions and Mariners competed in a meet in Bangor.

The girls team scores were: Bangor 24, Camden Hills 51, Hampden Academy 79, Brewer 112, Oceanside 134, Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield 137 and Belfast and Erskine Academy of South China no score.

The boys team scores were: Bangor 24, Hampden Academy 44, Camden Hills 102, Brewer 113, Erskine Academy 117, Belfast 147 and Maine Central Institute and Oceanside no score.

There were 58 girls and 89 boys who completed the course, including individual winners Megan Randall (19:47.22) and Daniel McCarthy (15:56.35) of Bangor.

At Brunswick the same day, Panther student-athletes competed, led by Connor Daigle, who finished first among 38 competitors. The girl race had 42 finishers, as Morse’s Audrey Crews crossed the course first in 20:24.8.

The girls team scores were: Brunswick 24, Morse of Bath 39, Medomak Valley and Boothbay Region 95.

The boys team scores were: Brunswick 15, Morse 49, Boothbay Region 74 and Medomak Valley no score.
