BELFAST — Cynthia Ann Spear Gilpatrick, 67, died Sept. 1, 2021, and went to be with her Lord and Savior, after her 16-year struggle with scleroderma and fibrosis.

She was born Feb. 15, 1954, in Belfast to Jane Fossett Spear and Donald E. Spear Jr. She was the youngest of four children and loved being home with her family. Cindy graduated from Belfast Area High School, class of 1972. Cindy longed to be a mother from an early age and was thrilled to have three children; later in life she became “Nana” to five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Her hobbies included making clothes for her children when they were young and taking care of the many children she watched over the years. She loved baking, especially the heirloom recipes, and her family’s favorite was her orange salad. Cindy was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church, where she served on the Board of Deacons for many years. Her favorite Bible verse was Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God.” She was predeceased by her parents, Jane and Donald Spear, and in-laws Lillian and Leon Gilpatrick.

Surviving is her husband, Jay W. Gilpatrick; sister-in-law Shelley Gilpatrick; daughters Jennifer and Steve Hills, Angela and Brian Blood; son Jason Gilpatrick; grandchildren Logan and Tanner Grant, Lindsey Blood and Jesse LaBreck, Samantha Hills, Lauren Blood and Joshua Hills; great-grandchildren Grayson and Griffin Grant; sister Catherine and Glenn Holland; brothers Donald III and Donna Spear and Ronald and Millie Spear; nieces Andrea Holland, Veronica Spear; nephews Edward and Kelly Holland, Travis Spear and Jessica Spear, Finn Moulton and Ronald Spear Jr.; several great-nieces and -nephews; one great-great-nephew; cousins and many great friends.
