The Belfast and Mount View field hockey teams took part in one-goal high school affairs in recent days, which ended with a notch in the win column for the Lions and one in the loss column for the Mustangs.

On Monday, Sept. 13, the Mustangs were downed at home 3-2 by Erskine Academy of South China, while on Friday, Sept. 10, the Lions rallied late to earn a 2-1 win over host Nokomis of Newport.

Erskine Academy 3, Mount View 2

At Thorndike Sept. 13, the Eagles got the game-winning tally with less than three minutes to play and soared past the ‘Stangs. Erskine Academy led 1-0 after the first quarter, while the opponents were tied 1-1 at halftime and after three quarters.

Alexa Coffin caged the goals for Mount View, while Sonny Heath and Mackenzie Burgess logged assists.

Hannah Cohen (goal), Evelyn Rousseau (goal, assist) and Mackenzie Toner (goal, assist) paced the Erskine Academy offense.

Belfast 2, Nokomis 1

At Newport Sept. 10, the Lions pulled ahead of the Warriors with a pair of fourth-quarter scores and emerged victorious. Nokomis led 1-0 after the first, second and third stanzas.

Breanna Shorey scored the goals for the Lions, while Audra Faulkingham and Kara Richards added assists. Madeline Roundy scored for the Warriors.

Madison Shorey had 16 saves in the cage for Belfast and Eliya Drummond four stops in goal for Nokomis.

The Warriors held a 22-9 edge in shots and 12-8 advantage in penalty corners.
