WALDO — Firefighters were dispatched to the scene of a vehicle fire near woods at 125 Bonne Terre Road, which was owned by the late Richard and Tina Bowden, around 2:30 p.m. Sept. 20.

When the first truck arrived, the crew found a parked plow truck engulfed in flames and several trees on fire as well, according to information emailed to The Republican Journal by Fire Chief Brian Walker.

A bystander reported that no one was in the truck and no one was injured. Mutual aid was requested from Morrill and Belfast was put on standby, but firefighters quickly knocked down the fire and mutual aid canceled, the chief said.

The complainant, Matthew Bowden, Richard and Tina’s son-in-law, was interviewed, according to the chief, and said the fire started after he sprayed starter fluid into the carburetor to start the truck.
