PITTSFIELD — After a single stroke decided the final regular-season high school golf match between Belfast and Maine Central Institute, the No. 2 Lions and No 1 Huskies met to decide which moved on to the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B Shootout on Thursday, Sept. 30 at Rockland Golf Club.

Perhaps that single-shot loss proved on the mind of Huskies, as the hosts dispatched the Lions 6.5-2.5 on Tuesday, Sept. 28 in the North Division of the league playoffs.

Thus, MCI, Leavitt of Turner and Maranacook of Readefield advance to the league championship shootout at Rockland. The Hornets ended up winning the tourney.

In previous playoff action, No. 2 Belfast beat No. 3 Nokomis of Newport 8-1.

The KVAC state team/individual qualifier is slated for Tuesday, Oct. 5 at the Natanis Golf Club in Vassalboro. Qualifying teams and individuals are back at that venue on Saturday, Oct. 9 for the state tournament.

Playoff: Maine Central Institute 6.5, Belfast 2.5

At Pittsfield Sept. 28, the Huskies finished with a four-golfer, nine-hole stroke total of 175 to 195 for Belfast.

The individual results, with Belfast golfers listed first, were: James Ritter (52) lost to Owen Moore (35), 5+4; K.J. Payson (47) beat Jordan Plamondon (49), 1-up; Zach Sanderson (47) halved with Joey Parker (47); Hagen Chase (52) lost to Leah Dechaine (49), 1-down; Bobby Banks (49) beat Nathan McKenney (50), 1-up; and Gary Gale (67) lost to Jullian Plamondon (49), 1-down.
