VASSALBORO — Lane H. Gray, age 58, died suddenly of natural causes Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2021, at his home.

Lane lived an active life as a professional surveyor and true outdoorsman. He was an extraordinary hunter and angler, gardener, self-taught botanist and mushroom forager. Lane loved the woods and nature and he collected many rocks, animal skulls and antlers over the years. He was a collector of fishing lures and antique bottles, a passion he shared with his wife and his many friends in the Mid-Maine Antique Bottle Club. Lane was a historian, and his interest in history made his title and deed research a pleasure. Lane was employed for more than 30 years as a Maine professional land surveyor and a Florida professional surveyor and mapper.

Born in 1963, Lane grew up in Midcoast Maine and lived for the past 17 years in Vassalboro. He is survived by his wife, Laurah Brown; his stepchildren, Dakota Koenig and Julius Koenig; Julius’s wife, Jen,and their daughters, Eve and Piper, of Augusta. Lane is also survived by his parents, Gladys Gray of Northport and Harold and Susan Gray of Florida; sisters Callie Gray and Sara Gray; nieces Mandi Gray and husband Ryan Carelli and Nikki Bellware and husband Paul Bellware; several grand-nephews; and a grand-niece. He was predeceased by his sisters Tara Cooper and Melanie Gray.
