BELFAST — The Lions’ football team hosted Maine Central Institute on Friday night, Oct. 1 and went on the offensive — in a significant way — against the visiting Huskies of Pittsfield.

Belfast got four touchdowns from junior Kaden Bonin — including a 70-yard punt return for a touchdown — as the hosts came away with a lopsided 42-7 high school victory.

Bonin also had touchdown catches of 85, 40 and 25 yards in the victory, while Drew Abelon rushed for a 55-yard score in the triumph.

Zepherin Leppanen, who also plays on the school’s soccer team, returned an interception 85 yards for a touchdown and booted five extra points for the Lions.

Quentin Roberts (10 tackles), Tanner Carson (safety), Rico Washington (8 tackles), Pete Lovejoy (interception), Gabe Kelley (interception) and Ryker Evans (interception) paced the Lion defense.

In the Maine Principals’ Association Crabtree Point Standings for Class C North, Belfast (2-3, 84.0000 points) is fifth, while Oceanside of Rockland (2-1, 96.6667 points) is first in the nine-team region.
