Science in the Dark

All this month, Friends of Sears Island is offering free “grab and go” night sky activity kits for kids. The kit includes materials to make a star wheel for finding constellations in the sky, glow-in-the-dark stars for your room, a mini flashlight and a night walk kit. To complete the kit, there are handouts about stars, moon phases, and nocturnal animals as well. The kits are geared for kids 5 to 12. Quantities are limited and will be distributed on a first come, first served basis. To request a kit for our child, please email outreach@friendsofsearsisland.org. After confirmation is received, families can pick up their kit at Carver Memorial Library from October 15 to 31.

Intro to Nanowrimo writing

Ever thought it’s time to sit down and write your memoirs or “the great American novel”? As November is national novel writing month, Carver Memorial Library will start you off on Tuesday, Oct. 26, at 3 p.m. Nanowrimo writing encourages you to write a lot about anything, just write! All ages are invited to attend. If you love it, the library will host weekly check-ins.

Reminder: Don’t forget Twilight Tours is happening at the Penobscot Marine Museum on Friday, Oct. 15, at 5 p.m. The cost is $20 per family up to 10 people. To sign up and purchase tickets, visit Tiny.one/TwilightTour. You never know who you may encounter on the grounds of PMM!
