ORONO — It is not often a high school team gets to play on the field of a Division I football program, but Mount View relished the experience on the University of Maine turf and made the most of the rare opportunity on Friday, Oct. 8 as the Mustangs’ offense ran wild in a 47-14 high school gridiron victory over Orono.

It was the first win of the season for Mount View, while the Red Riots dropped to 0-4.

The visitors compiled 434 yards of offense, with 336 on the ground and 98 through the air.

Sam Valleau and Wyatt Evensen crossed the century mark in rushing yards, as Valleau accounted for 137 and Evensen 114, as Bo Spaulding (38 yards), Colin Jones (30 yards), and Brock Cassidy (17 yards) also toted the rock. Valleau scored three times, as Evensen crossed the goal-line twice and Jones, once.

Valleau completed 4-of-7 (57 percent) passes for 78 yards, while Evensen was 1-of-2 (50 percent) through the air for 20 yards.

On the receiving end, Cassidy caught three passes for 63 yards, while Evensen and Valleau caught one pass for 15 and 20 yards, respectively.

The Mustangs ran 42 plays and gained 21 first downs in the contest.

On defense, Evensen (4 solo tackles, 5 assisted tackles, fumble recovery, interception, touchdown) led the way, as Valleau (10 solos, 4 assists, 1.5 quarterback sacks), Cassidy (9 solos, 4 assists), Nathaniel Cox (2 solos, 2 assists, 2 sacks), Miles Carter (3 solos, 2 assists, sack, fumble recovery), Garrett Dunton (3 solos, assist, sack), Eric Braley (solo, 4 assists, sack), Rayon Kirby (solo, 2 assists, fumble recovery), Landon Fletcher (solo, 2 assists, .5 sack), Anthony Mathews (3 solos, 2 assists), Kayleigh Dunton (solo, assist), Josiah Miller (solo, 2 assists), Spaulding (solo) and Jones (solo) put in strong efforts.

Valleau punted twice for 62 yards, with an average of 32 yards.

Kirby made two extra-point attempts, and Evensen one.

In the Maine Principals’ Association Crabtree Points for small school eight-man North squads, Mount View was fifth and Mattanawcook Academy/Penobscot Valley/Lee Academy first in the seven-team region.
