NOBLETON, Fla. — Winnifred B. Glidden, 94, passed peacefully Oct. 17, 2021, at a local hospital in Brooksville, Fla., of heart failure.  She was born in Orrington July 4, 1927, and lived most of her life in Waldo before moving to Florida with her daughter.

Winnie was the daughter of Charles and Hazel Smith of Waldo.  She was predeceased by her husband Wendell, sons Charles, Brandon and Dwight, and a grandson, Brandon Glidden II.

She graduated from Morse Memorial High School in Brooks in 1945 and married Wendell Dec. 24, 1946, after he returned from serving his country in World War II.

Winnie enjoyed a variety of different types of work during her long and faith-filled life.  She had worked as an operator for Bell Telephone, in the shoe industry and as a school cook at Van Poland School. Later in life she helped people as a home health aide. She always had a ready smile and a cup of coffee for her friends and family.

She spent the last four years with her daughter Brenda Billings of Nobleton, Fla.  She is also survived by granddaughters Shannon (John) Cloutier of Scarborough, Tracy Gaspar of Glen Allen, Va., and a long-lost granddaughter, Stacey Glidden; six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at a date to be determined in 2022.
