BELFAST — The Miss Maine Field Hockey finalists have been unveiled, with the protector of Belfast Area High School’s cage one of the three remaining for the state’s highest individual honor in the sport.

Lion goalie Madison Shorey, along with Kennebunk’s Samantha McGrath and York’s Sage Works, are finalists for the award.

The winner will be announced on Sunday, Dec. 5 at a banquet at the Augusta Civic Center.

This season, Shorey, a senior, has a .785 save percentage and six shutouts. She is committed to play at Converse University in Spartanburg, S.C.

“I couldn’t be happier that Madison is a Miss Maine finalist,” said Belfast coach Jan Holmes-Jackson. “She’s very deserving of it and nobody works harder on and off the field than her. She is an amazing goalkeeper and leader on our team. Madison is a big part of our success this season.”

The Lions are the third seed in Class B North and will begin their postseason against No. 6 Winslow on Thursday, Oct. 28 at 3 p.m. The game originally was scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 27, but was postponed due to rain.

McGrath, a midfielder, has 17 goals, six assists and two defensive saves playing in Class A South, while Works, a midfielder, has 11 goals and seven assists playing in Class B South.
