WATERVILLE — The No. 7 Belfast boys soccer team saw its 2021 high school pitch campaign draw to a close against No. 2 Winslow on Wednesday night, Oct. 27 under the lights at Colby College.

The Black Raiders took a mighty first-half lead and also netted two goals by penalty kicks in a lopsided 9-0 Class B North quarterfinal playoff win over the Lions.

Andrew Poulin pumped in four goals to lead the Black Raider offense, while Kris Loubier added three and Tyler Nadeau and David Doughty one.

The Black Raiders held a 34-1 advantage in shots and 9-0 edge in corner kicks.

Elias Howard made 11 saves in net for Belfast, while Jason Reynolds earned the shutout in goal for Winslow.

With the win, Winslow (18-1) advanced in the playoffs, where it beat No. 3 Ellsworth 3-0 and No. 4 John Bapst of Bangor 2-0, before the Black Raiders lost to Yarmouth 3-0 in the state final.

Belfast, which defeated No. 10 Nokomis of Newport 2-1 in the prelims, saw its campaign wrap at 6-10.

The Black Raiders also beat the Lions 7-1 and 10-0 during the regular seaosn.
