Here’s what’s happening as we settle into November holidays and activities.

Carver Memorial Library

Attention Writers and writer wannabees!  There is a Writer’s Circle starting up on every other Tuesday beginning Tuesday, Nov. 2, at 3 p.m. in the library meeting room. Whether your writing takes shape in a poem, short story or novel, it is a good way to get encouragement and inspiration.

There’ll be a fun writing prompt and then we’ll take turns talking about something you’ve done, an update on your project, or describing a poem or piece of writing you’ve found. After that there will be some time to work on our projects. The take-home prompt will be shared next time. All ages are invited to attend.

The DIY project this month is Luminaries! Kits are available Friday, Nov. 5. You can decorate your paper bag and save your LED tea light for part two of “Luminaries,” the glass jar type available Nov. 19. Luminaries are a wonderful and cheerful way to decorate your walkway at holiday time!

The Book Club will be reading and discussing “Mr. Churchill’s Secretary” by Susan Elia MacNeal on Tuesday, Nov. 9, at the Community Building at 42 Prospect St. Everyone is welcome to listen or discuss.

Now here’s something new to try for winter cooking: Spice Club. On Friday, Nov. 12, you can pick up a kit of spices with history and cultural background and recipes highlighting the featured spice. No need to register. If there is enough interest, it will continue throughout the winter. Yay!

Remember the library will be closed for Veteran’s Day Nov. 11 and Thanksgiving, Nov. 25 through the 28th.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 2. Remember our polls will be located at the Community Building and open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. For a newsletter from the town that will inform you as to time and dates of town meetings and reports on the Select Board meetings and town government happenings, sign up to be on the email list at the town website

The HOBBA (Head of the Bay Business Alliance) group met Oct. 28 and discussed what their priorities should be to promote business in Searsport, among them updating the paper map, directing tourists to the website, town signage, the information booth, special events and others.

The group meets on the fourth Thursday of the month at 8 a.m.; however, because of the Thanksgiving holiday, this month’s meeting will be on the 18th at Mermaid Plaza. If you have an interest or concerns, please join in! For more information get in touch with Ellie at Bangor Savings Bank or Steve Tanguay at Searsport Shores Campground.
