BELMONT — A two-vehicle head-on crash on the Belfast-Belmont town line Monday night, Nov. 1, sent several people to the hospital with unknown injuries.

Belfast police said Joseph McBride, 33, of Belmont was traveling east in a 2012 Toyota on Route 3 around 7 p.m. when he crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming car.

Alexandra Stewart, 30, of Liberty, was driving a 2021 Subaru that was struck by McBride’s car near the mailbox for No. 393. According to police, Stewart had three passengers, one of whom was a baby.

All parties involved, including the baby, were taken to Waldo County General Hospital for unspecified injuries. In a Facebook post later that night, Stewart said her son was doing fine and that he had bitten his lip, which made it look worse than it was.

Both vehicles had significant front-end damage and had to be towed from the scene. The road was closed while emergency responders cleared the site. Belfast Fire Department also responded to the call.

Police said charges may be filed pending the conclusion of their investigation.
