Here we are, creeping up on Thanksgiving plans. Hope you’ve made your reservation for the Kindness Program’s traditional Thanksgiving takeout meal on Wednesday, Nov. 24, for pickup from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Searsport First Congregational Church. Call Jayne at 407-694-8733 or Sandra at 548-6530 if you haven’t. Dinner is free, but donations are gratefully accepted.

Don’t forget free fresh produce, squash and especially potatoes, are available at the Public Safety Building on Friday mornings.

Friends of Sears Island is offering free activity kits to families in November. A great way to walk off the T-Day meal! The theme is “Patterns in Nature.” The kit includes materials to make a suncatcher inspired by patterns in nature, a mandala decoration, and a pattern walk scavenger hunt. There will also be some handouts about math in nature as well. The kits are designed for kids 5 to 12. To get yours, please email outreach@friendsofsearsisland.org. When you receive your confirmation email, families can pick up their kits at the Carver Memorial Library in Searsport from November 16 to 30.

It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas at Carver Memorial Library because the gift basket silent auction has started! They are always interesting. From tea baskets, to pet baskets, to chocolate baskets. Over 20 baskets are offered, scattered about the library. If you can’t get to the library in person, you can go to the website where there are photos and descriptions to bid on them at carverlibrary.org. All proceeds benefit the library programs and book sales.

Historic Preservation has received its first new house plaques. If you’d like one for your house, pick up a form at the Town Office, do a little research as to who built it and when or who lived there. Anyone on the historic preservation commission can recommend how to find information if you need help. Cost is $37.50 if you are among the first 15 applicants (12 spots are remaining; $75 after that) for a fully weatherproof board with screws to attach it. Might make a good gift.

I recently visited the Mark Twain house in Connecticut. I will occasionally add one of his still appropriate quotes from time to time and hopefully they will make you nod or smile to yourself!

“All you need in this life is Ignorance and Confidence and then success is sure.” — Mark Twain
