Volunteer Fire Department

Your Fire Department was called to assist Belmont with a chimney fire Nov. 8 on Dickey Mills Road. It was a daytime fire that was a serious problem. The chimney liner had a gap between the outer brick and the internal liner, of which some had crumbled. Morrill sent Engine 32 and three firefighters to the scene. Searsmont Fire Department also assisted Belmont, because of the possibility for this incident to escalate. We were on scene for over 2 hours.

Great news! The Ladies Auxiliary has word from the North Pole that one of our favorite visitors will be here for a visit on Thursday, Dec. 2, from 6 to 7 p.m. Yes, it is Santa Claus. It will be a no-direct-contact visit with Santa, who will be seated just outside the station if good weather. If not, he will be just inside the station with the overhead door open. Please dress warm. There will be a basket available to collect letters from the children to Santa. Pass the word.

It is also reported that it will be the birthday of a recently retired fire chief the night of
Santa’s visit.

Besides coordinating Santa’s annual visit, the Morrill Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary has donated
$600 for the purchase of a new portable radio, up to $1,500 for a rebuild of the Cross Road dry hydrant (spring of 2022), $650 toward phase one of three for the station painting project, up to $400 to re-pipe and move the station air compressor, $150 toward the cost of the sign update, $500 to the building fund, up to $900 for pump work on Engine 32 (probably early spring) and up to $650 for phase two of the painting project.

Wow! These monies were raised by several fundraisers such as our recent rifle raffle and donations. Without the Auxiliary we would have had to seek these funds from you, the taxpayers. The newly painted fire department sign is finished and, with the assistance of the Belfast Fire Department during a recent joint training with Morrill here in town, the sign was placed on the front of our station.

Thank you to our Ladies Auxiliary and Chief Patrick Richards and his crew from Belfast for their recent support.

Wishing you all a very happy Thanksgiving and hope you all have plenty to eat and enjoy your family and friends.

Happy birthday to Jane Grant on Nov. 2, Brian Bonfietti on Nov. 27, and Paula Roberts on Nov. 27. Wishing you all a really great day and hope it’s very special.

We all need to get together and enjoy one another, because there is no promise we will be here tomorrow. Don’t forget your elderly; make sure to either invite them or take them food. Happy Thanksgiving. I’m thankful for my mom, my son Justin, my daughter-in-law. family and friends.

Quote for the week

A person’s most useful asset is not a head full of knowledge, but a heart full of love, an ear ready to
listen and a hand willing to help others. “The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be
honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson
