Hope you all have a wonderful turkey day with friends and family. Now we look forward to Christmas and holiday decorations and celebrations!

DOT plans

But first, let me tell you what is going on with Maine Department of Transportation for the very large Route 1 project due to start next July through town. It is a 1.8-mile redo of the roadway from Savage Road to Station Avenue that will take two to three years to complete. The money has already been approved and allocated for this project by the state.

On Nov. 17, a meeting was held in Union Hall to discuss landscaping issues along the roadway and through town. New lighting and a brickwork sidewalk have been decided; adding trees, possibly benches and bump-outs for crosswalks are in the mix. There will be other meetings regarding this work before it starts. If you would like to join the town Reconstruction Committee for this project, get in touch with James at the Town Office.

What’s happening at HOBBA

The HOBBA (Head of the Bay Business Alliance) group met Thursday morning at 8 a.m. Several large map signs are planned for the spring at each end of town. To be included on the brochure and business map, pay $50 to join and see Ellie at Bangor Savings to be added to the list. Among other issues, they discussed working with the town and the events committee to place greens in the window boxes and decorating a donated Christmas tree on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 10 a.m. Show up at Bangor Savings if you’d like to help. A special tree lighting event will also happen that weekend.

Rio’s Spiked Café held its official ribbon-cutting Nov. 17 with the Select Board in attendance. Rio’s is planning several holiday events in December and expanding its menu. If you haven’t tried it yet, expect to be transported to an exotic, foreign place with a menu to match!
