SWANVILLE — A driver who slowed down to pull over and let another car pass was rear-ended Tuesday afternoon.

Robert Ferland, 46, of Swanville struck the car in front of him driven by 63-year-old Loretta Sawyer,  also of Swanville, who had slowed down, according to state police. The crash occurred on Swan Lake Avenue near Cross Road at about 3:30 p.m.

Police indicated the crash resulted from excessive speed and distracted driving, as Ferland was unaware the car in front of him had slowed down to pull over.

While both cars sustained substantial damage, no injures were reported from the crash. Along with Maine State Police, Belfast Fire Department answered the call.

Police said they did not have enough evidence to charge Ferland with distracted driving.
