EDDINGTON — Donald E. Thomas, 75, left his physical body Nov. 24, 2021, to reunite with family and friends in spirit. He was born May 27, 1946, in Belfast, the son of Clayton A. and Pauline M. (Phinney) Thomas. Both were there to welcome him home.

Don graduated from Belfast Area High School in 1964. He earned his Maine barber’s license shortly after. He proudly served in the Navy for seven years, being stationed on two ships in Vietnam, including during the TET offensive. He served as the ship’s barber. When not cutting hundreds of men’s hair, he was chosen as a security guard by the ship’s captain, who appreciated “A Navy boy from Maine who is a crack shot.” He was a 32nd-degree Mason and an Anah Temple Shrine tramp clown, known as Scruffy. Don operated several traditional barbershops in his life, most recently, the Center Beauty and Barber shop in Bangor.

Don leaves behind his wife and best friend of 30 years, Elaine. Also, his daughter, Karen; stepdaughter Michelle; granddaughter Mackenzie; stepgrandchildren Devon and Cheyenne; great-granddaughter Kennedi; stepgrandchildren Zayden, Lola and Autumn; brother Leroy and partner Mary; nieces, a nephew and cousins. He had many coworkers and clients over the years, all of whom were his friends. Don was a true conversationalist, and loved meeting people and bringing laughter and love into people’s lives. He had a big heart. He will be sorely missed.

Don will receive full military and masonic honors Saturday, Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. at the Belfast Masonic Hall, 12 Wight St., Belfast.

Condolences to the family may be expressed at memorial-alternatives.com.
