THORNDIKE — The start of the regular season is days away, but high school basketball squads are on the court for preseason action, including Mount View on Thursday night, Dec. 2 against Bucksport.

At home, the Mustang boys galloped out of the gate to a large lead before the opponents dug deeper into their benches.

By game’s end, the ‘Stangs netted a 50-41 victory over the Golden Bucks.

Mount View was led by Draedyn Furrow, who pumped in a game-high 30 points, including 19 in the first eight minutes, which was highlighted by a three-pointer to beat the quarter buzzer.

The ‘Stangs led 19-5, 34-13 and 44-27 at the quarter breaks and also got offensive contributions from Nicholas Cobb (7 points), Collin Jones (4 points), Ryan Oliver (3 points), Isaac Ellis (2 points), Wyatt Evensen (2 points) and Hope West (2 points).

Ty Giberson scored 13 points for the Golden Bucks, while Thomas Thompson added nine; Jake Williams, eight; Colin Simpson, five; and Kamryn Webber, four.

Mount View finished 3-of-6 (50 percent) from the foul line and Bucksport 6-of-13 (46 percent).

The Mount View girls also played at Bucksport, which saw the Mustangs shoot to a 35-26 win.

Mount View led 9-2, 17-9 and 24-16 at the quarter breaks.

Savannah Lorenz netted 11 points for the winners, while Kayleigh Dunton added seven; Hannah Coolen, six; Kricket Thompson, five; Syd Vogel, four; and Ari Bradeen, two.

Jetta Shook tallied 17 points for Bucksport, while Sam Cyr added six and Faith Vincent three.

Mount View netted 8-of-18 (44 percent) from the free-throw line, while Bucksport was 3-of-6 (50 percent).
