SEARSPORT — The First Congregational Church of Searsport has welcomed the Rev. Ed Gabrielsen as its new pastor.

Gabrielsen received his Master of Divinity degree from Perkins School of Theology, and recently served as assistant pastor at the Rockland Congregational Church. A longtime resident of Norway, Maine, “Pastor Ed” and his wife, Shari, currently live in Camden.

An accomplished singer and musician who plays the guitar, piano and harmonium, Gabrielsen enjoys using music to enhance worship services. Prior to entering seminary, he was a guest musician at a number of Maine churches, and served as music minister at the Waterford (Maine) Congregational Church.

Gabrielsen was called as pastor in September and began serving his Searsport congregation Oct. 1, preaching his first service in the sanctuary Nov. 14. Prior to that date, he conducted services at “car church” in the church parking lot, because of COVID concerns. While “car church” continues for those who wish to drive up and tune to 103.5 FM on their car radios, services are now being held in the sanctuary. Those attending must be masked, and seating observes social distancing guidelines.

The congregation welcomes all to attend either venue at 10 a.m. on Sundays. The church is located at 8 Church St. in Searsport. For more information, call the church office, 548-0327, or see the church’s Facebook page.
