Dam repairs

Bill Baxter, treasurer of Swan Lake Association, sends the following news:

“The Town of Swanville, with hard work by Select Board Chair Cindy Boguen, has acquired funding to make the dam repairs! The announcement below describes the first stage of repairs. The plan is to complete the replacement of the gates (in) fall of 2022.

“This is significantly sooner than most projections for the repairs. Thanks to the Select Board and the Swan Lake Dam Committee as well as Duncan Brown for his efforts in the logistics of getting the job done.

“Additionally, the town has approved funding from COVID-19 relief for dredging the area around the boat launch. Thanks to Win Hood for identifying that project and getting it directed. The Association is planning to spearhead this worthwhile project.

“Much good news for those who enjoy Swan Lake. Thank you to all who have made this possible.”

Select Board announcement:

“Swanville Select Board would like to inform Swanville residents that the first week in December there will be repairs … made to the Swan Lake Dam. Select Board Chair Cindy Boguen applied and was able to obtain federal funds to cover these repairs so there will be no cost to Swanville residents.

“The repairs include:
Remove existing concrete poured on lake side of dam.
Pour footer in front of dam approx 18″-24” deep.
Repair existing cracks in dam wall.
A floating silt fence will be deployed during the repairs.

“Please stay out of  the dam area while the work is being complete.”

Christmas Eve candlelight service

Always heartwarming, there will be a Christmas Eve candlelight service at the Swanville Community Church with special music, as well as congregational singing, and all are welcome!  Service starts at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 24.

Santa’s plans are still in the air!

As soon as I hear news of Santa Claus’ schedule, I’ll be letting you know here. He did say he’s planning on being at Swan Lake Grocery. He just hasn’t set the time yet. Watch out for that elf on the shelf, kids!
