BELFAST — Belfast Free Library has scheduled a number of activities and events for youth in December, including a Special Holiday Children’s Hour of stories, film and a craft for families during school vacation.

Stephanie Holman, Youth Services librarian and storyteller, invites children and families to join her for engaging stories such as “The Elves and the Shoemaker,” the folktale “The Little Blue Dishes” and the puppet story “A Present for Joey,”  as well as a showing of the live action film of “Corduroy” and a craft on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 10 to 11 a.m., and Thursday, Dec. 30, 3 to 4 p.m. The sessions will be held in the Abbott Room; social distancing and masks will be required.

How Many Kisses in the Jar

Youth are invited to drop by the second floor during open hours in December to study the kisses in the candy jar and make a guess.

Storywalk for Holiday on the Harbor

Santa will return to Steamboat Landing Park for the annual celebration of Holiday on the Harbor Saturday, Dec. 11. Enjoy a Storywalk, “One Snowy Night,” while you wait for Santa, 11 a.m. to noon, and 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

Take and Make for Teens

Pick up supplies and instructions for making a small embroidered item to keep or give as a gift. Supplies are provided by Anonimo Foundation and can be picked up beginning Tuesday, Dec. 14, while they last.

Take and Make for Children

Children can pick up a pre-cut Animal Friend Sewing Kit, an easy sewing craft complete with thread and child’s needle and all they will need to sew a small animal to keep or give as a gift. Supplies provided by Anonimo Foundation will be available for pickup beginning Tuesday, Dec. 14.

Friday Chess Club

Chess instructor and volunteer Bruce Haffner guides students who have a basic or advanced knowledge of the chess to grow their game. All attendees will play and should plan to stay and complete their game. Chess Club for grades K-8 will take place Dec. 10 and 17 in the Abbott Room. Masks are required.
