DAMARISCOTTA — A 25-year-old Belfast woman was killed in a head-on collision on Route 1 Tuesday morning, Dec. 7.

Damariscotta police say Emilee Mullin was traveling south with an infant in the vehicle believed to be hers, when she crossed the center line and struck a box truck driven by Derick Lavigne, 37, of Buxton.

Mullin died from the injuries she sustained in the crash, and the infant was taken to the hospital to be assessed. Lavigne remains in the hospital as of Dec. 9, according to police.

The crash occurred at approximately 11 a.m. Tuesday morning, between Belvedere Road and the bridge crossing Damariscotta River.

According to The Lincoln County News, Damariscotta Police Department is investigating the crash in collaboration with the Maine State Police Department’s Commercial Vehicle Unit, as well as state police reconstruction specialists and Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office.

Police believe neither speed nor impairment played a part in the crash.

A GoFundMe page set up to help the family with travel and funeral expenses said Mullin is the mother of two, a 4-year-old and an infant. To help with this effort, visit tinyurl.com/bd2d5j8v.
