MORRILL – Early Wednesday morning, a car went off the road in the village center, striking a utility pole before taking off again.

According to Morrill Fire Department Safety Officer Jethro Pease, sometime prior to 3:30 a.m. Dec. 15, a car left the road on South Main Street and struck a pole just south of Veracity Chapel, but before Poors Mill Road.

The crash snapped the pole, he said, causing a local power outage and blocking both lanes of travel. Fire Department personnel said it appeared a second car also hit the pole.

When Morrill Volunteer Fire Department personnel arrived, Pease said, no vehicle was found at the crash site. By 8:30 a.m., power was still out, he said. At around 8 a.m., South Main Street was reopened to traffic.

Pease said Sheriff’s officers found the vehicle involved in the crash close to Route 3. Because the investigation is active and ongoing, no further information is being released.

Traffic from Poors Mill Road was diverted through Savage Road in Waldo, while drivers on North Main Street were rerouted to Weymouth Road.
