It’s local election season here in Freedom. Nomination papers are available for the following positions: (1) one selectman seat, for a term of three years; (2) one town clerk/tax assessor/excise tax collector, for a term of one year; and (3) one treasurer, for a term of one year.

Additionally, folks can take out nomination papers for the new town Charter Commission, which must have six elected positions filled. All these nomination papers are available until Jan. 10, 2022, at the Town Office.

The town is also soliciting suggestions for language to put on potential “Welcome to Freedom” signs, which would be placed on roads at the Freedom town line. You can directly submit your suggestion via the town’s website (freedomme.org/).

Vicki Kupferman, district volunteer and internship coordinator for RSU 3, wants to remind you that the deadline for submissions for the Mount View High School alumni recognition award is coming up on Dec. 31. According to Vicki, “the purpose of the Mount View Alumni Recognition Award is to inspire current students by highlighting exceptional alumni achievements. The personal and professional accomplishments of previous Mount View graduates will encourage present-day students to reach for the stars.”

I am taking a break next week, so I hope you all have a great holiday season. This is the only time I demonstrate my sub-par cooking skills by making a traditional Ukrainian “sweet wheat berry pudding.” It is a multi-day process but a staple of Ukrainian Christmas. Here’s to hoping I don’t burn my house down.
