Birthday messages meant a lot

First, a big thank-you to reporter Fran Gonzalez, who inteviewed me and then wrote an article about my life of 90 years. The article was seen by many friends who took the time to send me a card or email. To my friends and family, l thank you, thank you, thank you. In my wildest dreams, I could not have expected such a response. In the last few weeks, I have gotten such pleasure reading over 200 cards, over 50 Facebook messages, 12 emails, and 13 people who stopped in to see me in person.

As an educator in high schools and then in adult education, you never know what influence you may have on someone. I am proud and pleased to have played even a small part in your lives. It has given me a great deal of pleasure hearing about the obstacles you have overcome, and the success you have experienced in life.

More important than any degree or job are the relationships we share with others. Thank you for including me among those that have played an important role in your lives.

You have truly made my 90th birthday something to celebrate.
