Hello Monroe!

The snow workouts around our farm have begun (for me, anyway!). Oliver has decided the view is pretty nice from the snow tube being tugged along by me … he even lets me plop Nolan on his lap for our little adventures. Nolan mostly sleeps while big brother soaks in the scenery. We make our way to and from the mailbox to see what Sue has left us for the day, and slide down the small slope by the bird feeder before Oliver is ready to go back inside for hot chocolate in his new excavator mug. Life sure is good for that little boy!

Cribbage play

As of Dec. 29, 20 interested participants are signed up to partake in the Cribbage Tournament to take place in January at the Monroe Country Store. Good for so many being willing and eager to socialize with community members they may or may not already know in friendly competition. I’ll do my best to stay on top of play and recognize participants in one of my next columns!

Library open

Remember that the Monroe Community Library is open for in-person browsing and curbside pickup, Monday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. A number of new books are on prominent display and available for checkout, and if there’s a title you want but the library doesn’t have, chances are they can get it for you, and quickly! Requests can be made in person or by emailing

Holiday card recycling

If you are the recipient of holiday cards and would like to recycle them, Monroe resident Barbara Dolloff uses them in her classroom each holiday season. You can drop any cards you wish to recycle with her husband, Dan, at the Monroe Transfer Station during open hours Saturdays (7:30 a.m. to noon) or Mondays (4 to 7:30 p.m.).

Have a great week!
