I hope you all had a great holiday season. It was certainly busy for Catherine, Sophia and me. We had the Hadyniak “Christmas Eve” on Dec. 23, as Catherine had to work on the 24th. We spent some time with Catherine’s sister and brother-in-law on Christmas Day evening, and got to see her family up in Hermon on the 26th. For the first time since I was a child we cleared the backyard pond, and had a lot of fun ice-skating on it.

Back at my high school reunion in October, I told my childhood friend Kalaa Wilson that I would get my next haircut at her business in Unity. I highly recommend “Kalaa Does Hair,” located in the train station building.

A reminder that the Community Walk and Community Fitness Center is open at Mount View High School, available on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Mark your calendars, as well, for Winterfest 2021. It will be held Saturday, Feb. 19, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Springvale Farm located at 52 Pleasant St. in Freedom. This event is sponsored by the Freedom Community Historical Society and the Freedom Recreation Department. More details on what exactly will happen during this festival will be forthcoming.

Speaking of the Freedom Community Historical Society, how about that donation news last week? We society members were informed of Erin French’s donation during our December meeting. We all were floored by the amount and quite grateful to her for thinking of us.

The town is still looking for a voluntary “alternate board member” for the Unity Area Regional Recycling Center. The town is also looking to hire a Public Works maintenance worker. The successful applicant would be responsible for maintaining town property, cemeteries, and small landscaping jobs around the Town Office, Mitchell Field and the boat landing. For more information, contact Town Clerk Cindy Abbott or Select Board member Elaine Higgins at 382-3038.
