Pretty quiet in the village these wintry days, good time to do some sedentary, indoor things like reading and getting ready for tax time….

February Book Club now on Zoom

The book this month is “Lady in the Lake” by Laura Lippman. There are many copies at the library, so feel free to pick one up. Book Club will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 9, at 1 p.m. via Zoom.  Don’t let this intimidate you! Easy peasy to join the meeting at https://networkmaine.zoom.us/j/83829926236 on your computer. Meeting ID is 83829926236 or dial in with 646-876-9923. Questions? Just call Carver Library at 548-2303.

Upcoming titles: “Courting Mr. Lincoln” by Louis Bayard and “The Given Day” by Dennis Lehane if you want to read ahead.

Free tax preparation

Free tax preparation will be offered at the Searsport Community Building (formerly Lions Club) at 42 Prospect St. by appointment from Feb. 17 to April 7. This is a program sponsored by AARP Foundation with the IRS for low- to middle-income taxpayers, previously held at Carver Memorial Library.  All COVID-19 safety protocols will be followed, whether one has been vaccinated or not. Please do not bring children. There is no age limit and membership in AARP is not required. Two short visits will be needed, one for intake of information and documents, the second for delivery of the tax return and documents to the client. To make an appointment, call Pat at 567-3137.

If you want to see a bit of Searsport nostalgia, catch the video of the Pepsi commercial done in the ’70’s of a car wash in front of the Congregational Church on Church Street on the Facebook site for Searsport Historic Commission! You might recognize some of those teenagers!
