RUMFORD — It was cold, and the calm before the storm, but Camden Hills and Islesboro downhill ski racers competed in a high school giant slalom event on Friday, Jan. 28 at Black Mountain.

The Windjammer Alpines skiers, along with Islesboro’s Jett Lindelof, who finished second among the boys, competed in the event.

Rangeley’s Bristol Quimby finished first among the girls with a 35.96 first run and 37.39 second run for 1:13.35 total time. Mount Blue’s Josh Smith finished first among the boys at 35.26 and 34.43 for 1:09.69.

Lindelof placed second among the boys at 35.30 and 35.16 for 1:10.46.

Skiers from Rangeley, Falmouth, Mount Blue of Farmington, Cony of Augusta, Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield, Gardiner, Dirigo fo Dixfield, Telstar of Bethel, Oxford Hills of South Paris, Maranacook of Readfield, Hampden Academy, John Bapst of Bangor, Leavitt of Turner, Edward Little of Auburn, Skowhegan, Spruce Mountain of Jay, Orono, Brewer, Winthrop, Mount Ararat of Topsham, Messalonskee of Oakland, Bangor, Mountain Valley of Rumford, Islesboro and Camden Hills registered to participate.

The individual Camden Hills girls results were: Lily Stowe, 38.16 first run and 39.76 second run for 1:18.92; Piper Urey, 38.61 and 39.96 for 1:18.5; Maggie Metzler, 39.70 and 39.67 for 1:19.37; Abby Williams, 39.22 and 40.29 for 1:19.51; Greer LaFiura, 41.92 and 42.15 for 1:24.07; Marlie Berard, 41.65 and 42.64 for 1:24.29; Ava Tobias, 42.87 and 42.63 for 1:25.5; Tegwyn Hearst, 45.54 and 45.52 for 1:31.06; and Victoria Wohlers, 50.29 and 49.16 for 1:39.45. Other Windjammers who participated were Zola Roberts and Sophia Howell.

The individual Camden Hills/Islesboro boys results were: Jet Lindelof, CH/Isles, 35.30 first run and 35.16 second run for 1:10.42; Marc Huguet, CH, 35.95 and 36.45 for 1:12.40; Brit LaFiura, CH, 37.74 and 38.09 for 1:15.83; Ryan Southworth, 38.59 and 39.13 for 1:17.72; Ryan Andersn, 40.44 and 41.58 for 1:22.03; and Thomas Mitchell, 42.92 and 54.00 for 1:36.92. Other Windjammers who participated were Roger Huguet and Oliver Castle.
