MONROE —  Lester S. Thompson quietly passed away Jan. 27, 2022, in Belfast after a short illness with loving family by his side.

He was born Dec. 21, 1936, in Belfast to Marjorie and Charles Thompson of Prospect. He attended schools in Prospect, Winterport and Bucksport before enlisting in the Navy, where he served for 20 years, retiring as senior chief hull repair technician (E-8) in 1974. After retirement, he lived in Monroe, where he worked as a self-employed carpenter and a longshoreman for ITO in Searsport. He was also a Registered Maine Guide and spent many enjoyable days guiding bird hunters.

He was predeceased by his wife, Gertrude (Gibbs), whom he married in 1985; a beloved stepson, Ronald Modon; and two daughters-in-law, Barbara Fowler and Katherine Tweedie. He is survived by his brother, Steve Hathaway, and his family of Prospect; a daughter-in-law, Janice Modon, of Stonington, Conn.;. a granddaughter, Carrie Modon, and family of Mystic, Conn.; a grandson, Steven Modon, and his wife, Tracy, and twin great-grandsons, Cade and Ryan. He is also survived by two sons-in-law, Ronnie Fowler and family of Dedham and Bruce Tweedie and family of Thorndike.

Service and committal will be in the spring.
