TROY — An extremely rare 1940s gas pump globe was stolen from a Troy storage unit, and police have requested the public’s help in tracking it down.

The theft occurred between Dec. 15, 2021, and Jan. 23, according to Detective Chad Foley of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office. Foley said the burglar only took the globe with the “Texaco” signage that was mounted on top of the antique gas pump.

Only one storage unit was robbed, he said, and it is unclear whether it was targeted.

Foley said the gas pump has sentimental value, belonging to a family that placed the pump in storage after a relative who owned it died. “It’s a family piece,” he said.

Since the item is so recognizable, Foley hopes people might see it “pop up.” Anyone with information about the missing Texaco gas pump globe can call Foley at 338-2040 or email cfoley@waldocountyme.gov.
