AUGUSTA — The regular season drew to a close for Midcoast high school basketball teams on Thursday, Feb. 10, as squads turn the page to the postseason and open tournament.

Due to COVID-19, the 2021-22 iteration of the Maine Principals’ Association basketball tournaments are open, with prelim games played before the quarterfinals begin on Friday, Feb. 18 at the tourney sites in Portland, Augusta and Bangor.

Oceanside of Rockland, Medomak Valley of Waldoboro, Camden Hills of Rockport, Belfast, Searsport, Mount View of Thorndike, Vinalhaven, North Haven and Islesboro will play, should they advance, regional quarterfinal games at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Augusta Civic Center ore Portland Expo.

Medomak Valley and Oceanside will play regional quarterfinal games at the Portland Expo, Belfast, Mount View and Searsport at the Cross Insurance Center and Camden Hills, North Haven, Vinalhaven and Islesboro at the Augusta Civic Center.

The following is a breakdown of the final regional Heal Point Standings and playoff pairings for area teams:

Boys

In Class A North, Camden Hills (9-7, 63.2261 points) finished fifth, while Nokomis of Newport (17-1, 165.7021 points) finished first in the 10-team region. The Windjammers, by virtue of their top-five finish, advance directly to the quarterfinals.

In the quarterfinals, No. 5 Camden Hills will face No. 4 Cony of Augusta (12-6) on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at the ACC. The Rams defeated the Windjammers 77-62 in a regular-season game on Jan. 6 in Augusta.

In Class B North, Mount View (13-5, 94.3744 points) finished fifth and Belfast (3-15, 13.2497 points) 15th. Ellsworth (18-0, 186.6288 points) finished first in the 17-team region.

In the prelims, No. 5 Mount View will host No. 12 Caribou (5-13) on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 6 p.m. The Mustangs and Vikings did not play one another during the regular season.

The winner will advance to the quarterfinals to face No. 4 Old Town (12-6) or No. 13 Washington Academy of East Machias (5-13) on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 2 p.m. at the Cross Insurance Center.

In the prelims, No. 15 Belfast will play at No. 2 Orono (15-3) on Wednesday, Feb. 16, time to be determined. The Lions and Red Riots did not play one another during the regular season.

The winner will advance to the quarterfinal and face No. 7 Winslow (12-5) or No. 10 Bucksport (6-11) on Friday, Feb. 18 at 8:30 p.m. at the Cross Insurance Center.

In Class B South, Medomak Valley (14-4, 131.4423 points) finished fourth and Oceanside (13-4, 101.9794 points) seventh. Spruce Mountain of Jay (17-0, 172.6834 points) finished first in the 15-team region.

In the prelims, No. 4 Medomak Valley will host No. 13 Oak Hill of Sabattus (8-8) on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 6:30 p.m. The Panthers and Raiders did not play one another during the regular season.

The winner will advance to the quarterfinals, where it will face No. 5 Lisbon of Lisbon Falls (14-3) or No. 12 Poland (6-12) on Friday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. at the Expo.

In the prelims, No. 7 Oceanside will host No. 10 Leavitt of Turner (11-7) on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 6 p.m. The Mariners defeated the Hornets 58-47 on Jan. 6 in Leavitt and 61-47 on Feb. 8 in Rockland.

The winner will advance to the quarterfinals, where it will face No. 2 Yarmouth or No. 15 Lincoln Academy of Newcastle on Friday, Feb. 18 at 5:30 p.m. at the Expo.

In Class C North, Searsport (6-11, 31.2414 points) finished 15th, while Fort Kent (17-1, 179.1656 points) finished first in the 19-team region.

By the sheer number of teams in the region, No. 15 Searsport hosted No. 18 Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln in a “pre” prelim on Saturday, Feb. 12 and earned a 50-43 victory.

That win allowed the Vikings to advance to the prelims, where it will play at No. 2 George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill (14-2) on Wednesday, Feb. 16, time to be determined. The Vikings lost 62-46 to the Eagles on Dec. 18 in Searsport and 69-40 on Jan. 19 in Blue Hill.

The winner will advance to the quarterfinals, where it will face No. 7 Fort Fairfield (10-7) or No. 10 Penobscot Valley of Howland (8-8) on Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 11 a.m. at the Cross Insurance Center.

In Class D South, Islesboro (7-6, 39.9572 points) finished third, Vinalhaven (4-5, 32.8548 points) fourth and North Haven (0-9, no points) 10th. Forest Hills of Jackman (18-0, 108.6818 points) finished first in the 10-team region. The Eagles and Vikings, by virtue of their top-six finishes, advance directly to the quarterfinals.

In the prelims, No. 10 North Haven will play at No. 7 Rangeley (4-10) on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 12:30 p.m. The Lakers defeated the Hawks 78-30 on Jan. 21 on North Haven.

The winner will advance to the quarterfinals, where it will face No. 2 Valley of Bingham (10-4) on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 10:30 a.m. at the ACC.

In the quarterfinals, No. 3 Islesboro will face No. 6 Pine Tree Academy of Freeport (7-11) on Monday, Feb. 21 at noon. at the ACC. The Eagles defeated the Breakers 49-39 on Jan. 8 in Freeport and 48-42 on Jan. 27 on Islesboro, but lost 43-40 on Jan. 31 in Freeport.

In the quarterfinals, No. 4 Vinalhaven will face No. 5 Greenville (4-12) on Saturday, Feb. 19 at noon at the ACC. The Vikings and Lakers did not face one another during the regular season.

Girls

In Class A North, Camden Hills (0-17, no points) finished 10th, while Skowhegan (18-0, 182.8684 points) finished first in the 10-team region.

In the prelims, No. 10 Camden Hills will play at No. 7 Mount Blue of Farmington (7-11) on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 6 p.m. The Cougars defeated the Windjammers 61-32 on Feb. 10 in Rockport.

The winner will advance to the quarterfinals, where it will face No. 2 Gardiner (16-2) on Friday, Feb. 18 at 5:30 p.m. at the ACC.

In Class B North, Mount View (7-11, 47.1602 points) finished 12th and Belfast (2-12, 15.2614 points) 13th. Old Town (17-1, 184.1140 points) finished first in the 17-team region.

In the prelims, No. 12 Mount View will play at No. 5 Waterville (12-4) on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 6 p.m. The Mustangs lost to the Purple Panthers 51-46 on Dec. 21 in Waterville and 38-35 on Feb. 5 in Thorndike.

The winner will advance to the quarterfinals to face No. 4 Presque Isle or No. 13 Belfast on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 9:30 a.m. at the Cross Insurance Center.

In the prelims, No. 13 Belfast will play at No. 4 Presque Isle (12-6) on Tuesday, Feb. 15, time to be determined. The Lions and Wildcats did not play one another during the regular season.

The winner will advance to the quarterfinals to face No. 5 Waterville or No. 12 Mount View on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 9:30 a.m. at the Cross Insurance Center.

In Class B South, Oceanside (16-0, 148.3833 points) finished second and Medomak Valley (12-6, 75.0201 points) seventh. Wells (17-1, 193.5518 points) finished first in the 14-team region.

In the prelims, No. 7 Medomak Valley will host No. 10 Mountain Valley of Rumford (7-10) on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 6:30 p.m. The Panthers and Falcons did not play one another during the regular season.

Oceanside, by virtue of its top-two finish, advances directly to the quarterfinals. It will face the winner of the prelim between the Panthers and Falcons on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 10:30 a.m. at the Expo. Oceanside defeated Medomak Valley 59-25 on Dec. 10 in Rockland and 62-27 on Jan. 22 in Waldoboro.

In Class C North, Searsport (3-13, 4.1406 points) finished 19th, while Stearns of Millinocket (12-3, 130.1486 points) finished first in the 19-team region.

By the sheer number of teams in this region, No. 19 Searsport will play a “pre” prelim at No. 15 Penquis Valley of Milo (5-13) on Monday, Feb. 14 at 6 p.m. The Vikings lost to the Patriots 30-23 on Dec. 13 in Milo and 31-28 on Jan. 21 in Searsport.

The winner will advance to face No. 2 Calais (14-3) in a prelim game, time and date to be determined.

In Class D South, North Haven (3-6, 9.7777 points) finished eighth, Vinalhaven (0-9, no points) ninth and Islesboro (0-10, no points) 10th. Valley of Bingham (13-1, 116.8772 points) finished first in the 10-team region.

In the prelims, No. 10 Islesboro forfeited its prelim playoff game to No. 7 Temple Academy of Waterville (3-12) over a dispute regarding face mask policies.

In the prelims, No. 8 North Haven will host No. 9 Vinalhaven on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 4:30 p.m. The Hawks defeated the Vikings 36-24 on Feb. 10 on North Haven.

The winner will advance to the quarterfinals, where it will play No. 1 Valley on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 10:30 a.m. The Cavaliers defeated the Vikings 64-10 on Dec. 17 and 91-23 on Dec. 18 in Bingham and defeated the Hawks 91-26 Jan. 22 on North Haven.
