We have a new ritual this winter where we shovel off the south-facing deck after it snows so that when we get some melting it is clear of snow. Looking out at a clear deck makes us feel a little less housebound in the cold and snow, and it is a good space for Monty to run around in. Yesterday it hit 54 degrees here, so I lay out on one of the benches and felt at least 50% more alive.

Cloe Chunn wrote to me to share that she and David (Thanhauser) had a flock of snow buntings visit them from Feb. 10 to 12. Two have stayed behind and are still there. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen snow buntings but would love to get a visit from the flock.

Like Steve Ellis, they’ve also had a pileated woodpecker at their bird feeder. I must be next! Fingers crossed.

Carolyn Zachary, who recently covered the Waldo Select Board meeting, confirmed that the Select Board members are committed to protecting funds for broadband, which I was very glad to hear.

Mark your calendars for this year’s town meeting. It will be held on Saturday, March 26, at the Town Hall. There will be a breakfast discussion at 8 a.m. and the town meeting will begin at 9 a.m.
