LIBERTY — According to a press release issued Tuesday by the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office, a man was arrested and charged with elevated aggravated assault, Class A after an incident Saturday, Feb. 19.

In the Feb. 22 release, police said a call came into the Waldo Communications Center around 5:30 p.m. Saturday with a report that a person was shot with a firearm at a home on Pinnacle Road. The complainant said the victim came to their home for help after being shot at a neighboring residence.

Personnel from the Sheriff’s Office, the Maine State Police and the Maine Warden Service all responded to the call. Once on scene, Sheriff’s Office investigators determined that James Billings, 68, of Pinnacle Road in Liberty, had had an argument with a male living at his residence. According to the release, “The argument escalated when Mr. Billings reportedly shot the victim in the arm with a handgun. The victim immediately left the residence and traveled to a neighboring residence to seek assistance.”

The victim was taken to Waldo County General Hospital, treated for a gunshot wound to the arm and released.

Billings was arrested and taken to the Waldo County Jail. No bail is allowed.
