LIBERTY — Two vehicles were damaged, but the drivers escaped injury in a collision early Thursday afternoon on Stevens Pond Road.

Chief Deputy Jason Trundy of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office said today that Forrest Brown, 67, of Vassalboro was driving northwest on Stevens Pond Road in a 2003 Ford Ranger pickup truck. “It appears he either fell asleep or lost consciousness,” Trundy said. The truck traveled to the left side of the road and struck a mailbox. “That caused him to regain consciousness and he overcorrected, going into a skid.”

A 17-year-old from Tenants Harbor, driving a 2007 Volvo, “saw the truck on the wrong side of road, stopped, but got sideswiped by the truck, which kept going and rolled over,” Trundy said.

Waldo County Dispatch received a call about the crash at 1:38 p.m. Feb. 24. “It appears there was no significant injury,” the chief deputy said, “because everybody declined treatment at the scene.”

Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Totman’s Garage, he said. No charges will be filed.
